The health, safety and wellbeing of all our young people are of paramount importance to all the staff at Meadows Care. Young people have the right to be protected, regardless of age, gender, race, culture or disability. They have a right to be safe.
At Meadows Care we respect young people and our atmosphere is one that encourages them to do their best. We provide opportunities that enable the young person to take and make (safe) decisions for themselves.
We recognize that for young people, high self-esteem, confidence, supportive friends and clear lines of communication with a trusted adult helps. We will therefore:
a.Establish and maintain an ethos where young people feel secure and are encouraged to talk and are listened to.
b.Ensure that young people know there are staff who they can approach if they are worried or in difficulty by making ourselves openly available and prepared to give time to listen to young people.
c.Include in our work and curriculum activities and opportunities for PSE, which will equip young people with the skills they need to stay safe.
d.Include materials which will help young people develop realistic attitudes to the responsibilities of adult life, particularly with regard to child care and parenting skills.
We acknowledge the unique developmental process of adolesence and the challenges this brings. We help young people to resolve any past trauma as well as encouraging the retention and growth of resilience to equip them to cope and thrive throughout this period. We invest heavily in preparation for independence and always provide young people with a transitional up to date assessment when they move on. Meadows Care believe strongly in holistic provision and have worked hard to provide staff and young people with a compass and map of how this is enacted within all Meadows Care provision. Young people have often experienced multiple adversities and have accompanying vulnerabilities that need to be redressed and strengths, resilience and protective mechanisms supported and nurtured. We believe in developing wellness plans to secure optimal outcomes and engagement from young people in the process
