Self Harm

Young people presenting with self-harming behaviour represent a major challenge to professionals at a number of different levels, not least that it frequently co-exists with a traumatic past and some form of mental health problem. All these factors combined raise issues of how to engage the young person in the process of assessment, intervention and treatment compliance.

At Meadows Care we have developed a framework for assessment that links with our robust and well tested management protocol and practice. We have also developed a clear framework for differentiating between self harm and suicidal behaviour which we can deploy when deciding on the appropriateness of admission and throughout the young person’s stay with us.
